Julen Lopetegui sack: West Ham priority emerges after Man City defeat
West Ham are more focused on strengthening their squad rather than replacing Julen Lopetegui in January, according to Matt Law.
The Telegraph journalist reported (5 January) that, despite mounting pressure on the manager after a 4-1 defeat against Manchester City, the Hammers’ hierarchy are keen to fix the issues in the squad rather than sack the manager.
However, with two defeats on the spin, it is a situation that could change if the Spaniard fails to improve things with the Irons soon.
Julen Lopetegui needs to improve things at West Ham
Despite being under serious pressure at numerous times throughout the season so far, Lopetegui seems to get the results at the right time to save himself for a short period.
David Sullivan doesn’t seem too keen to make a quick sack decision, which is understandable after he brought him in to replace David Moyes in the summer and the sizeable backing he gave him.
However, with things struggling to get going at The London Stadium this term, the Hammers chief must know that there is serious improvement needed.

With that in mind, this transfer window is key for the East London outfit. Lopetegui must recruit the right players after a number of summer signings have failed to get going this term.
However, there also needs to be the correct backing from the board at West Ham to ensure that the manager isn’t limited in his abilities to improve his squad.
The squad has to be the primary focus for now but if nothing improves in the second half campaign, it could mean it’s time for Sullivan to make the call to change the manager.
