Julen Lopetegui sack today: West Ham final dagger mooted in Manchester
Julen Lopetegui could now be sacked by West Ham after the crushing defeat against Manchester City on Saturday, according to James Gheerbrant.
Erling Haaland scored twice as Phil Foden and a Vladimir Coufal own-goal condemned the Hammers to a 4-1 defeat on 4 January, with Niclas Fullkrug scoring a consolation.
Lopetegui may have been hit by the final dagger of his West Ham career after yet another heavy defeat, with his sack now possible tonight, it seems.
Writing for The Times from The Etihad Stadium, Gheerbrant shared what could now happen following yet another defeat for the Irons.
“It was an afternoon when Manchester City rediscovered some of their swagger — and, perhaps, when Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham United tenure received a final dagger,” he wrote.
“A clinical three-goal burst either side of half-time decided this contest and ensured Pep Guardiola’s team would win two games in a row for the first time since October, but this was also a strange game whose final scoreline belied how vulnerable City often looked and how many chances West Ham created.”
Julen Lopetegui sack sealed at West Ham United
This cannot be allowed to go on any further.
Lopetegui has failed miserably and David Sullivan has to acknowledge that, along with some help from Tim Steidten, who did influence this appointment in the first place.
With David Moyes watching on from the stands at The Etihad, he must have been shaking his head that he was thrown to the side for this type of football.

City are struggling heavily right now, but yet they were made to look like their attacking best again with countless mistakes at the back and stupid football.
Lopetegui must be sacked as soon as possible, and with the FA Cup starting again for Premier League clubs next week, it is the perfect time to make that decision.
Fans will be expecting this decision soon, as they were after defeats against Leicester and Liverpool, with the excuses surely now at zero for the London Stadium boardroom.
The clock is ticking, it’s time to go.
In other West Ham news, an unpopular transfer decision may soon have to be made at the London Stadium.
