Julen Lopetegui sack: New West Ham timeline emerges

Julen Lopetegui is set to be informed of his West Ham United sack by Wednesday morning, according to the Press Association.

In quotes relayed via Sean Whetstone’s personal X account (7 January), Press Association journalist Andy Sims has shared that there are still a “few contract details” for them to agree upon.

The report also adds that Potter could be announced as the Hammers’ new boss as soon as Thursday.

The 2024/25 season has been one that Hammers fans will likely want to forget because it feels like nothing has gone right for their team this season with change evidently needed among their ranks.

Although Lopetegui may have been seen as a solid candidate on paper to David Sullivan, it’s been made clear this term that he’s not quite cut out for managing the Hammers.

While Potter may have been out of the game for around 18 months, the fact he’s chosen to take time out and cherry-pick which team will be the next that he takes on means that this could be a match made in heaven.

At the moment, the Spaniard is still in charge but with the way that things have gone over the last 24 hours, it’s hard to see how Potter won’t have been announced as the Hammers’ new boss before their FA Cup third-round clash against Aston Villa on 10 January.

In other West Ham news, Graham Potter might have to mix his Hammers role with one in the PFA after their latest announcement.
