Julen Lopetegui sack: ‘Extraordinary’ West Ham drops from Rush Green today

Julen Lopetegui taking West Ham training at Rush Green on Wednesday is “ludicrous” and “extraordinary”, Rob Dorsett says.

The Sky Sports reporter shared on 8 January that he expects the Spaniard to depart and Graham Potter to sign a contract with the Hammers later today.

The former Wolves manager has been under heavy pressure at the London Stadium after a disappointing season, the Irons are in 14th place in the Premier League and winning one of their last five matches.

Dorsett slammed the situation, speaking live on Sky Sports, saying: “Julen Lopetegui has arrived at West Ham’s training ground.

“As things stand, he is due to take the players in training this morning, which is quite frankly a ludicrous situation, an extraordinary situation, and you have to have huge sympathy for the man.

“He is a dead man walking, we know that Graham Potter is imminently going to take over, I expect Graham Potter to sign a contract to become West Ham’s new manager at some point today.”

The Hammers need to get Potter in as soon as possible with Everton also interested in the former Chelsea boss.

Letting Lopetegui take a training session when he is on the verge of being sacked is a ridiculous move, they should just put him out of his misery now.

His reign has been extremely underwhelming and it is time for both parties to move on from each other and allow Potter to start planning for the transfer window.

Sporting director Tim Steidten could also be on borrowed time in East London, the club spent over £100 million in the summer transfer window and the majority of those signings have failed to make an impact.

If the club could pull that off, it would be a masterclass and allow them to transform their fortunes on the pitch sooner rather than later.

In other West Ham news, sources claim the Hammers can now secure the services of a £40m player in January.
