Julen Lopetegui cannot turn it around after West Ham United loss v Nottingham Forest

Roshane Thomas cannot see Julen Lopetegui turning things around at West Ham United after the 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The Irons fell to fourteenth in the Premier League table after losing to Forest at the City Ground on 2 November, with Edson Alvarez also sent off.

With the Hammers sitting just six points above the drop zone, Thomas has pointed the finger at Lopetegui for their troubles.

“I don’t think Lopetegui is capable of turning this around. He was the wrong appointment”, Thomas wrote on X (2 November).

“This team has regressed, has no identity, the players look despondent and the formation/tactics are questionable.

“Lopetegui wants fans to reserve judgement until May, but there is little encouragement that things will improve.

“He keeps persisting with out of form [Guido] Rodriguez, [Crysencio] Summerville brought off early again and another game with a different formation. I could go on all day.”

Will West Ham United sack Julen Lopetegui after loss v Nottingham Forest?

West Ham have a decision to make regarding Lopetegui in the coming days on the back of the result at the City Ground this weekend.

While the 2-1 victory over Manchester United last Sunday (27 October) gave Lopetegui some breathing space, he will hope that the loss to Forest was not the final straw for him.

The Hammers backed Lopetegui significantly in the transfer market, bringing in the likes of Max Kilman, Jean-Clair Todibo and Crysencio Summerville.

However, they would not have expected to be sitting fourteenth in the table at this point in the season.

Edin Terzic, who has been mooted as a potential candidate to replace Lopetegui, is prioritising a move to the Premier League (Sami Mokbel).

The German-Croatian tactician led Borussia Dortmund to the UEFA Champions League final last season and his availability should make it easier for West Ham to pull the plug on Lopetegui if it came to it.
