Julen Lopetegui agrees different West Ham United deal to David Moyes in Sky Sports update
Julen Lopetegui will take on the role of head coach at West Ham United when he replace David Moyes, according to Sky Sports News.
Writing on their website (6 May), the news outlet report that the Spanish coach has agreed a deal to take over at the London Stadium this summer.
But in a twist he will be head coach of the first-team, rather than taking on the role of manager which Moyes has held over the last five seasons.
West Ham changing direction under Lopetegui?
It’s become clear now that the Hammers have every intention of going in a different direction from next season onwards, and it starts with Moyes leaving the club.
However, it’s also now clear with this bit of information that the club want to ensure there are no power struggles behind the scenes as there have been over the last 12 months.
Technical director Tim Steidten admitted recently that he wanted total control when he joined last summer, and in a final move to assert dominance before his summer exit Moyes banned the German from Rush Green and the first-team dressing room.

But with Moyes heading out and Lopetegui coming in, Steidten will now seemingly be the one with the control over certain situations like transfers and Lopetegui will deal with whichever hand is dealt to him.
It’s a positive change as it means the club will have a direction regardless of the manager who is in charge, and all Lopetegui will have to concern himself with is performances on the pitch.
In other West Ham news, players have witnessed friction between Steidten and Moyes behind the scenes.
