Journalist: West Ham in ‘good position’ to sign 6ft 4 colossus
After David Moyes’ return as manager resulted in a 4-0 thumping of Bournemouth on Wednesday, the mood has lifted dramatically at West Ham United.
However, there is a reason the squad was struggling so badly under former boss Manuel Pellegrini, and it wasn’t solely down to the beleaguered Chilean.
Moyes has inherited a talented but uneven squad, and further investment is needed this month to make the season a success.
It’s no surprise, then, that the club are being linked with some interesting names, and a Norwegian midfielder is now thought to be close to joining.
Bleacher Report journalist Dean Jones revealed on his personal Twitter account on Friday that the Hammers are in a strong position to bring in Genk midfielder Sander Berge.
“West Ham interest in Gedson Fernandes now being reported by @SkySportsNews but worth bearing in mind the club are also in a good position to sign another midfielder… Genk’s Sander Berge,” he wrote.
The 6ft 4in Norway international has emerged as one of the most sought-after midfield destroyers in Europe, who has also been linked with Premier League leaders Liverpool.
In other West Ham news, Moyes has delivered his verdict on the chances of a star Hammer returning from his loan spell this month.
