Journalist shares likelihood of two West Ham United player exits as ‘bad’ Jarrod Bowen news emerges

The injury suffered by West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen against Bristol City could be “potentially serious”, according to Alex Crook.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Wednesday (10 January, 07:55am), the journalist said the injury will have a “knock-on effect” on the potential departures of fellow attackers Said Benrahma and Danny Ings, who has been linked with Wolves in this transfer window.

He added that it’s “bad news” for the Hammers after suggesting the club were willing to listen to offers this month for Algerian international Benrahma, having mooted some potential interest from his old club Brentford in signing him.

West Ham

“I wondered if they (Brentford) might make a play for Said Benrahma, who’s a player West Ham were willing to potentially listen to offers for,” said Crook. “But West Ham had some bad injury news over the last couple of days. Michail Antonio’s going to miss the next six weeks.

“I was told yesterday Jarrod Bowen’s ankle injury is looking potentially serious as well. Not only will that have a knock-on effect to Benrahma, but maybe for Danny Ings as well, who’s got interest from the likes of Wolves. So bad news for West Ham.”

Not ideal

The news surrounding the injury picked up by Bowen in the 1-1 draw against Bristol City is hugely concerning after he’s been superb for West Ham so far this season.

With Michail Antonio set to miss the next six weeks after suffering a setback, Lucas Paqueta is expected to be out with a calf injury for the next four weeks and the Hammers could be without Mohammed Kudus until February as he’s away with the Ghana squad ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

That means David Moyes simply can’t afford to let any of his other attacking players leave this month, meaning Benrahma and Ings are unlikely to move on in this window.

West Ham United

That duo, alongside the likes of Pablo Fornals, simply haven’t done enough this season and are going to have to step up over the next few weeks if we’re going to pick up any results.

The club’s hierarchy should be looking to dip into the transfer market to strengthen in the attacking areas this month, otherwise, the season could be at risk of being ruined due to the injury situation.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers could be set to make an approach for an “unbelievable” forward as his club are now open to a sale.
