Journalist reacts as West Ham United transfer news emerges on ex-Hearts ace Andy Irving
West Ham signed former Hearts midfielder and Austria Klagenfurt midfielder Andy Irving on deadline day without announcing it yet, according to Barry Anderson.
The National World journalist has been left fascinated by this development and tips the 23-year-old to do well at the London Stadium.
Currently, Irving will be loaned back to the Austrian club as the Hammers look to establish an affiliate relationship with them.
Anderson wrote on Twitter, “Andy Irving’s transfer to West Ham from Austria Klagenfurt is fascinating. He will become an #EPL player in a big-money deal two years after leaving Hearts thanks to a German data analyst. Good move for a player who worked hard to establish himself abroad.”
Good for the bigger picture
If West Ham are enhancing their connections to better their recruitment and also have clubs to send players on loan for their development, then it’s only a good thing.
David Moyes does not need to approve of this signing as it’s being made with the bigger picture in mind.

He may not even be at the club when Irving is in contention to play for the first team and this opens up different avenues for the future.
Not signing a striker on transfer deadline day is a huge blow for the Hammers and that’s not something Moyes would’ve been pleased about.
It remains to be seen how long Michail Antonio leads the line or if Jarrod Bowen or Mohammed Kudus will be tried as number nines.
In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open to leaving his side this summer.
