Jose Mourinho will want West Ham United job as Lopetegui exit news emerges

Andy Goldstein believes Jose Mourinho would take the opportunity to replace Julen Lopetegui at West Ham United.

The Spaniard is “on the brink” of losing his job in East London [Fabrizio Romano] following the 3-0 loss against Nottingham Forest last weekend, he will surely be removed from his role should he fail to beat Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday [9 November].

Romano also named former Hammers assistant manager and Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic as the frontrunner to replace Lopetegui.

However, Goldstein discussed potential replacements with co-host Darren Bent live on talkSPORT [5 November, 4:22pm] and believes Mourinho would take the role but warned the club against appointing ‘The Special One’.

He said: “Do you know Jose would take that, wouldn’t he? You don’t want Jose at your club West Ham fans let me tell you now – the club will implode.”

West Ham United should not appoint Jose Mourinho

Mourinho sent Premier League clubs on high alert after revealing he wishes to return to England following his stint at Fenerbache and named London as his “home”.

Considering West Ham are the only London-based outfit with a reputable standing who will undoubtedly be searching for a new figurehead to lead the side, all the signs point to Mourinho targeting a return to the capital city in claret and blue.

His track record precedes him and while the 61-year-old is a serial winner in the Premier League, his ability to ruffle feathers and leave chaos behind him as he did at Manchester United and Tottenham, is the last thing the Hammers need.

David Sullivan will be under immense pressure to appoint the correct successor to Lopetegui and the potential success Mourinho could bring to East London could easily sway his decision.

However, West Ham supporters want to see an exciting brand of attacking football at the London Stadium and Mourinho is the polar opposite, he sets his side up around a solid defensive structure.

Therefore, he should be at the bottom of the list of potential candidates regardless of his pedigree, to finally deliver the long-term vision the supporters were crying out for following Moyes’ departure.

While Lopetegui remains at the helm, who could replace the Spaniard remains a hot topic of debate but is nothing more than speculation at this stage however, the talk will become a reality if West Ham leaves Goodison Park on Saturday empty-handed.
