Jose Mourinho wants Roma forward in place next week as exit-linked West Ham United ace Scamacca makes ‘declaration of love’

Jose Mourinho is hoping to sign a new forward at Roma next week as exit-linked West Ham star Gianlucca Scamacca makes a “declaration of love,” according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper reported on 14 July that the Serie A club’s boss is “in a hurry” to sign a striker and he is hoping to have a deal in place before he takes his squad on a pre-season retreat to Portugal on 22 July.

Gazzetta highlights that Scamacca has made a “declaration of love” for Roma, but that the Hammers have “made a wall” to prevent any deal from taking place.

Unlikely

It appears extremely unlikely that if Mourinho is to have his wish granted and a new striker in place within the next week that it will be Scamacca, given that the West Ham squad – including the Italian forward – are currently on a pre-season tour in Australia.

There has been no secret made about the fact the Portuguese manager would rather bring in Alvaro Morata ahead of the Hammers forward, as the Gazzetta report alludes to.

It’s not completely out of the question that a deal could move forward for Scamacca while he is out in Australia, but the East Londoners have started to make it clear they want to give him another chance in claret and blue next season.

West Ham

Speaking to The Athletic on 13 July, first-team coach Billy McKinlay admitted the 24-year-old hasn’t had the best start to his career at the London Stadium, but that the coaching staff are “delighted” he has returned from injury and are hoping to see him show he is a top player in the next few months.

It looks as though Scamacca will be staying with us for the time being, but that could quickly change.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are preparing a bid for a player that has “outgrown” his current club.
