John Terry jumps to defence of West Ham defender Kurt Zouma in Premier League clash v Chelsea

John Terry defended West Ham defender Kurt Zouma as he was attacked by Henry Winter in the Premier League clash v West Ham on Sunday (20 August).

He said that James Ward-Prowse should’ve been named the captain and not the Frenchman because he never kicked a cat.

This is obviously in reference to the video that surfaced last season of Zouma and his brother seen kicking a cat.

Via Twitter, Winter wrote, “Kurt Zouma captains West Ham. Why not James Ward-Prowse? He’s obviously new to the club but he’s a natural captain and he’s never kicked a cat.”

Terry responded, “Poor tweet from you, Henry Winter.”

Weird tweet

That was a weird thing to tweet about from one of the top journalists covering the sport.

Zouma undoubtedly made a mistake in the past and he’s been apologetic for it so it makes little sense to still bring it up.

Winter perhaps felt he was being edgy and that it would generate traction on social media but it was in bad taste.

West Ham

It’s good to see Terry standing up for Zouma and letting the Times journalist know, in no uncertain terms, that he was out of line.

The Frenchman is a leader and merits being the captain so it was the right decision to hand him the armband.

Ward-Prowse is a leader but he cannot really be named the captain on his debut and he can still be a vocal presence in the dressing room.

In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open on leaving his side this summer.
