John Heitinga set to join West Ham United as David Moyes rekindles Everton association
Former Everton and Fulham player John Heitinga is set to join West Ham and become David Moyes’ assistant for the season, according to Mike Verweij.
The Telegraaf journalist reported on Tuesday (5 September) that the duo know each other from their days at Goodison Park and are set for a reunion at the London Stadium.
The 2010 World Cup finalist aims to return to Ajax one day – a club where he was briefly in charge – but as of now, is happy being the number two.
Verweij wrote on Twitter, “David Moyes takes ‘old acquaintance’ John Heitinga after his failed adventure at Ajax in West Ham United’s coaching staff. Trainer and his new assistant have known each other from period at Everton.”
Good move?
Heitinga has gained experience not just by having an illustrious playing career but also by being the manager of a big club like Ajax.
Moyes knows him well and he would certainly listen to what the Dutchman has to say so a tactical change may be on the cards at the club.
It remains to be seen how much of an influence the Scotsman lets Heitinga have but the fact that he’s making this appointment in the middle of the season suggests he wanted to bring his friend to the club as soon as possible.

It won’t be a surprise if Heitinga is on the bench for the Hammers’ next game against Manchester City on 16 September post the international break.
Both sides are currently unbeaten in the league this season and it will certainly be a mouth-watering encounter for everyone to witness.
In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open to leaving his side this summer.
