John Barnes thinks West Ham midfielder Declan Rice would suit Liverpool
John Barnes believes West Ham midfielder Declan Rice would suit Liverpool more than Manchester City if he were to leave the club this summer.
Rice has been linked with a £100m move to a Champions League club this summer [Telegraph], with West Ham confident of keeping hold of him despite the interest.
Speaking to BonusCodeBets.co.uk, via Football London, Barnes believes that Rice would be a ‘great acquisition’ for anyone but thinks his game would suit Liverpool more than most.

“Rice would fit the profile of what Liverpool want,” he said.
“He’s a hard-working, strong midfield player who can win tackles, break things up, defend well, and that’s the profile they look for.
“He probably wouldn’t suit a team like Man City, but he can break the game up, cover the fullbacks if they go up and down, so he would suit Liverpool.
“But he’s at West Ham and Liverpool haven’t made a bid for him, so it’s speculation. If it happens it’s a great acquisition.”
Boring
It’s getting pretty boring hearing where Rice would fit in best away from West Ham because he isn’t going anywhere if nobody pays up.
He’s absolutely pivotal to our club’s plans for progression in the future and where we want to be is because he’s part of our excellent midfield.

Should he leave then unless we find an excellent replacement group, then the likelihood is that we’ll go backwards and be forced to rebuild slowly without him.
The fact of the matter is that Rice could fit into the starting lineup of any football club that he played for because he’s absolutely impeccable at his job and one of the very best around at doing it.
Whether it’s Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea, Man United, Real Madrid or West Ham, they’re lucky to be able to have him play for the team and it’s time people started respecting the fact he’s a Hammer.
