Joe Cole shares what Moyes has personally told him about West Ham
Joe Cole has lifted the lid on how David Moyes truly feels about West Ham United following his time at the club.
Moyes parted ways with the Hammers at the end of the 2023-24 season after a successful stint in charge of the club.
The experienced manager had been in the role from December 2019, in what was his second spell after a brief run as the boss from November 2017 until the end of that campaign in 2018.
Moyes brought Premier League stability and guided the Hammers to the Europa Conference League, which remains one of the greatest accomplishments in the club’s history.

David Moyes still holds West Ham highly
Moyes and West Ham’s split was something that many people outside of the club were surprised by due to the positive results he was consistently bringing them.
Some fans have often wondered whether or not that led to Moyes having disdain for his former side, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Former West Ham midfielder Cole recently spent some time with Moyes, where he got to talk about his experience at the Hammers.
Cole revealed to The Dressing Room podcast, “I was at Everton as well this week. I have been about, and I was with David Moyes, and we were chatting about West Ham. He holds the club in such fondness.
“Yeah, everyone loves West Ham, but he was telling me it’s remarkable what he’d done at the club, the semi-final, the Conference League final. And in the club, that’s one of them, they got rid of him, and everyone was expecting, right, just going to change this brand of football. And it just, Lopetegui, it went a bit sideways.”

West Ham have struggled without Moyes
At the time of Moyes’ departure, it felt like the right moment for the Scotsman to part ways with the Irons, as there was a growing frustration over his style of play and whether he’d taken them as far as they could.
West Ham replaced him with Julen Lopetegui with the idea being that he would add an attacking style, which would make them more exciting to watch, but what followed was anything but that.
It has been a disastrous first season without Moyes, which led to Lopetegui being replaced by Graham Potter during the season.
Premier League Table | Games Played | Won | Lost | Points |
17 West Ham | 34 | 9 | 16 | 36 |
West Ham currently sit 17th in the table, and while they have avoided relegation, that is more down to the poor quality of the teams below them rather than their own grittiness.
The fact that there are question marks over Potter’s future at the London Stadium showcases that there is a lot of work to be done, meanwhile, Moyes is enjoying great success since returning to manage Everton.
