Joe Cole sends West Ham United chiefs serious message after European exit

Joe Cole has sent a “very important” message to the West Ham board following their exit from the Europa League on Thursday [May 5] night.

The Hammers were beaten 1-0 on the night by Eintracht Frankfurt after Aaron Cresswell’s sending off which saw the tie finish 3-1 on aggregate.

David Moyes’ side was so close to the final and former and the BT pundit believes the Irons chiefs must take imminent action.

Cole told BT Sport [May 5, 22:15]: “This needs to be built on now, that’s very important.

“The owners, the investors – this team needs to be stuck together and added on because you’ve got a manager in the prime of his career, some wonderful, wonderful young players and the future is bright for West Ham.

“This needs to be celebrated and added on – it’s disappointing tonight but we go again.”

Momentum.

West ham came so, so close to glory. It is hugely disappointing that they never made it to the final especially given the circumstances.

If the Hammers had lost fair and square it wouldn’t be such a big blow but having a man sent off in the first 45 minutes crippled them and from that point on, the tie was done.

Fair play to the lads though he fought their absolute hardest right until the end – they did themselves proud but it wasn’t meant to be.

Cole is spot on, this opportunity needs to be seized. It isn’t often that the Hammers are in a European semi-final with the excellent squad they have.

These players have beaten all odds this season and pushed themselves so far in every single competition despite their limitations.

Moyes has proved himself and so have the players and if they get the financial backing in the summer – next season could be even better than this one.

In other West Ham news, Phil Neville has flown to the defence of one West Ham man after his “totally wrong” treatment.
