Joakim Maehle wants West Ham United transfer from Atalanta

Atalanta full-back Joakim Maehle is very keen on a move to the Premier League and West Ham United in particular, according to Calcio Atalanta.

La Dea are advancing in talks to sign a replacement defender in the form of Fabiano Parisi which may open the door for Maehle, who starred for Denmark at Euro 2020 as they reached the semi-finals, to leave the Gewiss Stadium.

Gian Piero Gasperini was not convinced by the 25-year-old last season and could therefore make him available for transfer at just £15.5million [Tutto Atalanta].

Maehle still has a contract at the Bergamo club until the summer of 2025 but he looks increasingly unlikely to see out that duration with Parisi’s impending arrival and the Irons’ keen interest.

Tutto Atalanta also reported back on 20 June that West Ham United were the only club from the Premier League in the race to sign the full-back who played Champions League football last season.

Must buy

David Moyes has plenty of areas in his squad that needs strengthening so when a bargain like this comes up in one of those areas, you have to do everything you can to get a deal sorted.

Sooner or later, other clubs in the Premier League are going to realise Maehle is available for a steal and they will all come swooping in to try and win the race which is why we should not hesitate in jumping the queue.

His versatility of being able to play on both the left and right of a defence echoes that of Ben Johnson but he possesses that little extra spice in the attacking third which was arguably lacking from the Hammers side last season.

He could come in as the fourth full-back with Johnson, Vladimir Coufal and Aaron Cresswell and allow the boss to focus on other areas knowing that position is sorted.
