Jim White reveals price tag West Ham United have placed on Declan Rice live on talkSPORT

TalkSPORT host Jim White has revealed that West Ham United want £120million plus add-ons for the sale of Declan Rice in the summer.

Speaking live on White and Jordan (Monday 6 February), the talkSPORT host confirmed Rice was the subject of a failed £100million bid from Manchester United last summer, with Erik ten Hag’s side, Chelsea and Arsenal “still in the frame” for his signing.

However, if any of these sides are to prise Rice away from West Ham, they will need to break the English transfer record, which was set by Chelsea’s signing of Enzo Fernandez for a £107million fee. [BBC Sport, 1 February]

White said: “It is our understanding £120million plus add-ons will get him. £120million plus add-ons would secure you Declan Rice.

“We understand Manchester United last summer bid £100million and didn’t get him. Chelsea, Arsenal and United are still in the frame, it is understood. Still giving chase.”

Jack Grealish 2.0

The inbound transfer frenzy for Declan Rice’s services has a certain Jack Grealish feel to it.

Everybody knew it was only a matter of time before he would leave the club and that the fee would be astronomical, with the main question of which club would snap up his services remaining.

Grealish and Rice have held similar importance to their clubs over the past five years after rising through the ranks and making a name for themselves in the first team and can therefore have such fees placed on their heads.

Villa, however, didn’t invest their money too well, with the likes of Danny Ings, Leon Bailey and Emi Buendia flattering to deceive in the West Midlands. If the Hammers are to get the £120million plus add-ons pricetag for Rice, every club on the globe will know the purse they possess, and they must be careful not to fall into the trap Aston Villa did.
