Jim White and Martin Keown debate David Moyes long-term West Ham United future live on talkSPORT

Jim White and Martin Keown have expressed their opinions on whether David Moyes will remain at West Ham United beyond the end of this season.

The Hammers moved six points clear of the Premier League relegation zone with a comfortable 4-0 win over Bournemouth on Sunday (23 April) with seven games remaining.

The Times reported earlier this month (12 April) that the club are “expected to part company” with Moyes even if the Scot keeps his struggling team in the Premier League this season.

West Ham

Speaking live on talkSPORT show White and Jordan (Monday 24 April, 12:55pm), White and Keown took contrary stances on whether Moyes is still under pressure and whether he will still be in the London Stadium dugout next season.

White said: “Do you think he is now deserving of a longer stay at West Ham, if it works the way they hope it works Martin, you would have to think if he wins the [Europa] Conference League trophy and West Ham finish in a respectable position, he’s on for another season, of course he is, surely?”

“Well yes, but he will still have to start well the following season,” Keown replied.

“Because they were in 5th place for large parts of last year, so this year it has been really difficult for them. It has been a difficult watch and we’ve heard lots of people here phoning in and West Ham fans are not happy at all.

“And if they lose the next two games, we will be hearing something similar Jim.

“Who wouldn’t back against that. To play Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Manchester City, they’re tough games, followed by Manchester United.”

West Ham

Rejuvenated

Although West Ham have been seriously underwhelming this season, they finally look to have reignited into life over the last fortnight.

Starting with the 2-2 draw against Arsenal, Moyes’ side look to be back to their best, and now the question that lingers is whether Moyes will remain manager into next season.

The Scot has the experience, knows the Premier League well and has proven he can get a grip of this squad, but whether David Sullivan believes a new direction is needed is another questions.

If West Ham United win the Europa Conference League this season and successfully navigate their way to Premier League survival there is no doubts that Moyes deserves the shot to carry on next season.

The former Everton boss has taken the Hammers to some of their brightest days in recent history, and winning a first trophy for West Ham since 1980 would be a brilliant way to cap off his time in the London Stadium dugout, even if he remains at the helm for next season.
