Jesse Lingard pens emotional tribute to West Ham

Jesse Lingard has sent some warm messages of gratitude towards West Ham with his loan spell set to officially conclude next week.

The Manchester United loanee started West Ham’s final game of the season on Sunday, a 3-0 win against Southampton, as the Irons secured Europa League football next season.

But he will now head back to his parent club with his temporary deal set to expire on May 31, after he joined late in January.

West Ham

The 28-year-old took to his personal Twitter profile on Thursday morning to thank those connected to West Ham, particularly David Moyes.

He wrote: “What a way to end the season. Reaching our goal with this incredible group of lads feels amazing! We pushed hard and never gave up! I feel so lucky to have been able to come into such a welcoming environment.

“Everyone connected with the club has shown me just how special this club is. So thank you to the gaffer who had the belief in bringing me here. Thank you to all the staff that made it so easy for me to settle and embed into the club so quickly.

“Thank you to the coaches who helped me find my true self back on the pitch. Thank you to the fans who supported me from the second I arrived, It was amazing being able to play in front of you on the last day!

“And thank you to a special group of lads, as well as making some new lifelong friends training and playing with you all has been one of the highlights of my career! Whatever the future holds West Ham will hold a special place in my heart!”

We want more

Let’s not jump to conclusions here – this isn’t necessarily the final goodbye.

A barrage of lengthy, emotional posts usually indicates a player is gone for good, but it’s important to put into context Lingard’s career before he joined us in January.

He was a player suffering from a chronic lack of confidence on the pitch, barely featuring at all for Manchester United in the first half of the campaign.

Indeed, he failed to make a single Premier League appearance for them.

There were some well documented personal issues he was going through, and thus he took the excruciating decision to leave his boyhood club, temporarily at least.

But East London has provided a safe haven for the England international, who has enjoyed a Three Lions renaissance under Gareth Southgate, thanks to his fine form for Moyes’ side.

That might explain the posts from Lingard – he wants to make sure everyone connected with the club knows just how grateful he is for helping to turn his form and career around.

We’re still holding out hope for his permanent signing in the summer.
