Jesse Lingard: I’ve already hit some of my targets at West Ham

West Ham ace Jesse Lingard has said the club was the perfect match for him when he was trying to find a new club to revive his career.

The 28-year-old has reignited his career in East London. He hadn’t played once in the Premier League this season for Manchester United in the 2020/21 campaign.

In seven games for the Hammers, he’s had seven goal involvements and has forced his way back into the England squad.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Lingard claims he always remained close with the manager Gareth Southgate through a rough couple of seasons that he had. He said: “I still kept in contact with him when I wasn’t playing, just to get his advice on what I should do.

“He said, ‘If I were you, I’d stay in the Premier League.’ After that, it became about finding a Premier League side and West Ham fitted in perfectly.

“Thing happen off the pitch which can affect your performances. When I went on loan to West Ham I had a load of targets written down, and I’ve hit certain ones already.”

Perfect match

Jesse, we feel the exact same – It’s a pleasure watching you play football at the moment. We can’t wait to get back into the London Stadium to give you a proper reception.

What a sensational start to his West Ham career Lingard has had. We’re struggling to think of a player who’s made more of an impact with regards to goals and assists. He fits the David Moyes philosophy perfectly and has slotted into the side.

We’re over the moon to have him playing in claret and blue. If we want to kick on next season, he has to sign permanently. To say we’re the perfect fit for him shows how happy he is at the club. It’s in everyone’s best interest if we sign him.

Maybe then he can re-write his targets with the club and go about smashing them next season too. Best of luck to him and Declan Rice on international duty. Hopefully, they come back in good fitness and are ready to push on for the end of the season.

In other West Ham news, Kai Corbett was ‘unplayable’ for the u18’s in their 5-0 win over Norwich City.
