Jeremy Ngakia explains West Ham exit to Watford, shares what ‘stood out’ in talks
Jeremy Ngakia has opened up on his West Ham United exit after leaving the club to sign for Watford over the summer.
The formers Hammers talent turned down the option to remain at the London Stadium, and instead made the move to the Championship.
The 20-year-old caught the eye in the Premier League last season, and David Moyes even revealed his disappointment publically.
Ngakia claimed that the opportunity to play first-team football was his main decision to move to Watford, despite his breakthrough last season.
“The opportunity to come to Watford stood out to me and I just felt it was the right thing to do for my career,” he said when asked about the move.
“I thought this would be the best place to kick-start my career. I think being here is going to give me the right platform for me to develop and become more of a man.
“It’s my first full season in the first-team environment, so everything is new to me, but Watford was the best option for me and the best platform for me to take the next step in my development.”
Ngakia made a number of impressive performances against Liverpool twice and Arsenal and Moyes did make it clear that he was in his plans.
Looking at the Irons depth before Vladimir Coufal arrived at the London Stadium, there was only Ryan Fredericks available at right-back.
Fredericks hasn’t enjoyed the best of seasons, although he has improved and there will surely have been numerous chances for Ngakia to cement his spot.
