Jeff Stelling explodes after what West Ham United fan said live on talkSPORT

Jeff Stelling has told one West Ham fan to “get a grip” after he wrote into talkSPORT complaining about David Moyes after the Hammers’ 1-1 FA Cup draw with Bristol City on 7 January.

The fan urged Stelling and Ally McCoist to defend Moyes after they were outplayed at the London Stadium despite a strong lineup, as Stelling reminded him of the positives at West Ham.

The legendary broadcaster pointed to the Hammers’ Europa League progression and sixth-placed Premier League position as he instantly hit back.

Speaking live on talkSPORT [via their Facebook page, 8 January], Stelling exploded: “Here we go Ally, it’s quarter past six on 8 January: ‘Go on lads, defend your mate David Moyes. Strong team out, outplayed at home to Bristol City’ [from] Jim the West Ham fan.

“Jim, you’re in the next phase of the Europa League, you’re sixth in the Premier League table, get a grip man.”

Stelling has a point

The draw with Bristol City in the FA Cup was certainly frustrating. The Hammers failed to make their home advantage count despite naming a strong team, and the goal conceded was of their own making, but these games happen throughout the season.

Not every game will be the perfect easy ride to a 2-0 win where absolutely nothing goes wrong and the Hammers breeze through the game. It’s simply not the way football works.

For fans to turn on Moyes immediately after a negative result, despite the recent unbeaten record including clean sheets against Arsenal, Manchester United and Brighton, just shows that a certain section of the fanbase will never be satisfied.

Ultimately, as Stelling says, they have progressed after finishing top of their group in the Europa League and currently sit in sixth place in the Premier League. That’s nothing to be sniffed at, despite the frustrating FA Cup draw.
