Jeff Stelling questions GSB involvement in Kurt Zouma starting for West Ham, Paul Merson hits back

Jeff Stelling has questioned the involvement of GSB in West Ham United selecting Kurt Zouma to play against Watford in midweek.

The Frenchman started despite shocking footage being released of him abusing hit cat the night before the 1-0 win.

Paul Merson hit back at claims that GSB told David Moyes to play Zouma, with the manager experienced enough to make his own decisions.

Speaking live on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (12 February, 01:36 pm), Stelling kicked off the verdict.

“David Moyes to my knowledge is a thoroughly good man,” he said. “Do you think there have been instructions from above that the player must play?”

Merson hit back at those claims, though, insisting it was Moyes’ decision to start Zouma against Watford in midweek.

“Do you really think the board have told him to play? 100% absolutely not, it’s David Moyes’ decision.”

Excuses?

Moyes has been in the game for more than long enough to not be taking instructions about his squad from those above him.

The board and GSB can concentrate on financial matters and transfers, but it is down to the manager to control what happens on the pitch.

That is one thing that the manager has done superbly in the last two years, dragging us into Europe with limited signings.

Zouma has been made available by the board, who haven’t made the decision to suspend him, but they can’t tell Moyes what to do.

Merson is spot on, Moyes is one of the most experienced around and he knows exactly what he is doing – he needs no one to tell him.
