Jeff Stelling predicts result of West Ham United v Manchester United FA Cup clash for Sky Sports

Jeff Stelling is predicting a shock result in the FA Cup fifth round clash when West Ham travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Wednesday (1 March).

The Hammers claimed a big 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League at the weekend, while Man United lifted the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 win over Newcastle in their last outing.

But speaking to Super 6 (28 February), Stelling is backing a shock upset with West Ham to claim the win on the road and progress to the next round, picking them to win 2-1 despite the opposing form of the two sides coming into the game.

“West Ham will knock Manchester United out of the FA Cup, off the back of Erik Ten Hag’s success in the Carabao Cup,” he wrote.

Wow

It’s been a while since anyone predicted something positive for West Ham, and this is surprising considering where both teams are right now in their season.

Obviously the big 4-0 win at the weekend has seen momentum pick up, but the team are suffering with a host of injury problems and Manchester United are absolutely flying right now.

West Ham

David Moyes’ record against the top six teams away from home is horrendous in all competitions, and with several players out injured for the game our team will be weaker.

But they’re likely to be on a high following the cup final and that could see them struggle with adrenaline as the game wears on, giving West Ham a chance to put them to the sword.

It will obviously be difficult against the most in-form team in the country right now, but in a one-off cup game there is always a chance and if we perform at our best then we’re capable of getting a result.
