Jeff Stelling denies ‘Agenda’ claim after incident during West Ham v Leicester moment of silence
Jeff Stelling has refuted claims that he has an agenda after an incident during the Premier League clash between West Ham and Leicester City on Sunday.
Plenty of Celtic fans flocked to Twitter after firework sounds were audible around the London Stadium during the silence held for the Duke of Edinburgh after his death last week.
One supporter tweeted: “Massive amount of fireworks during the minutes silence in the West Ham game but it won’t get spoken about because it doesn’t fit the anti Celtic agenda.”
Stelling, host of the popular Sky Sports show Soccer Saturday, was forced to defend himself after fielding accusations of bias by Hoops supporters who took umbrage with his reporting of a similar incident during their clash with Livingston on Saturday.
A Celtic fan messaged Stelling on Twitter, “Any comments on the west ham fireworks at a certain time Jeff? Didn’t think so, only when the Celtic are involved.”
Stelling responded on his personal Twitter profile: “I did not make any comment. I just reported it had happened. Big difference. I have no agenda.”
Stelling followed this up with a tweet to another user just two minutes later. He said: “Look I did not attack anyone. I simply reported it had happened and made no comment. Get a grip.
Drop the finger-pointing
The incident during West Ham’s 3-2 win over the Foxes looks to have caused a real stir online.
Clearly, supporters north of the border are fuming with the idea that a prominent football figure has singled them out, but we’re not sure why our club is being brought into the matter.
Why are we to blame for fireworks going off near the ground? Does that mean it’s 100% Irons affiliated?
Our home ground is in the popular Stratford district of London and as the former Olympic Stadium its affiliations go way deeper than our club – if the fireworks were set off in the vicinity of the area it could quite literally be coming from anyone.
The notion that it was purely a West Ham thing is nonsense and people need to be a bit more aware of the full facts before they try to tarnish our name online.
