Javier Hernandez offers ‘very good step’ verdict on Edson Alvarez’s West Ham United switch
Javier Hernandez has described Edson Alvarez’s transfer to West Ham United from Ajax this summer as a “very good step” for his international teammate.
The former Hammers forward spent two years at the London Stadium between 2017-2019, scoring 17 times in 63 games in claret and blue across all competitions and has played alongside Alvarez for Mexico since the midfielder made his debut in 2017.
West Ham spent a reported £35.4 million to sign the midfielder from the Dutch giants in the summer [Sky Sports, 10 August] as they looked to strengthen their midfield following the departure of Declan Rice to Arsenal and Hernandez believes Alvarez has picked the right club to continue his career with.

Speaking to Paramount+ (29 September) he said: “I think this is a good step for him in his career after Ajax and gaining experience in this league. I think it’s going to be very good for him and also for his position and I think that well, as we are seeing it right now West Ham are really good.
“Speaking of David Moyes, he’s a person who is also more defensive than offensive from my point of view. This one is going to be very good I think it will be a very good step in his career.”
Positivity
It feels as though nobody has had a bad word to say about Alvarez since he made the switch to the London Stadium this summer, whether it be former teammates, pundits or even the West Ham fanbase who have been eager to sing his praises.
What has been interesting from Hernandez is just how positive he has been about Moyes’ ability to get the best out of the Mexican international, given Chicharito had his own individual struggles when he played under the former Manchester United boss’ tutelage.

So far the 25-year-old has repaid the faith put into him by everyone at West Ham and has impressed in his five Premier League appearances so far, with Moyes’ side looking a much better outfit when he is on the pitch.
Alongside James Ward-Prowse and Lucas Paqueta, the Irons have a midfield cohort that will be the envy of most sides outside of the Premier League’s big six clubs and hopefully, they can continue to impress and help push the Hammers into a fourth consecutive season of European football.
In other West Ham news, Hernandez has blamed Moyes’ taste for his struggles during his time at the London Stadium
