Jason Cundy explodes in West Ham United rant live on talkSPORT, Dean Saunders responds

TalkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy exploded live on air stating his disbelief at the current position of West Ham United in the Premier League table.

The race for Premier League survival is hotting up as the league kicks off again after the international break, with all of around nine teams currently steeped down at the bottom with just four points separating 12th from 20th in the table.

West Ham have endured a disappointing Premier League campaign after the success of the last two seasons, currently sitting 18th in the table much to the utter disbelief of Cundy and Dean Saunders, live on talkSPORT [31 March].

Cundy exploded, saying: “I can’t believe West Ham United are there, what’s happened, how has that happened? How has this happened?! This is a side that I felt were going to go on and win the Europa League last season.

“They had a brilliant, in fact, really good two seasons. This season, they’ve spent about £140m-£150m. How are they there?!

Saunders responded, discussing that it only “takes a yard” for everything to fall apart. He said: “I think last season, they had that run in Europe and they were firing on all fronts. All of them at the races, bang at it. It only takes a yard, you’re a yard short all over the pitch, and look what’s happened.”

Cundy exploded at Saunders again, saying West Ham’s fall is more than a yard. He said: “Oh Deano! Come on, that’s more than a yard mate!”

Saunders then went on to say he’s not worried as they have goals all over the pitch, saying: “They’ve got goals in the squad, right? I’m not worried about West Ham United. I think they’ve got players who can score. Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek, Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio who’s not prolific but can score goals on any given day.”

Shocked

Cundy’s reaction live on air is how every West Ham fan and neutral have been thinking and reacting all season because the Hammers being in a relegation dogfight at this stage of the season, especially after last season’s success was totally inconceivable.

The fact that clubs such as Everton, West Ham United, and Leicester City are currently down at the bottom just goes to show how difficult this league is and the fact that any big or small club cannot take any of their 38 games for granted.

West Ham

There’s no single reason as to why West Ham are down at the bottom in 18th, it is down to a whole host of factors and the East Londoners can simply not afford to allow their complacency and lack of performance levels to continue as they could well face the drop come May which would be incredibly damaging to the whole club.

Saunders is right, West Ham should be okay when it comes down to it because of the quality in their squad and the players and Moyes must ensure they steer clear well clear of the drop. However, questions will need to be asked as to how the club have gotten to this sorry position.
