Jason Cundy baffled by West Ham claim about David Moyes

TalkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy was left staggered when a West Ham fans called in to say that David Moyes hasn’t done anything special at the club this season.

After just about avoiding relegation from the Premier League last term, Moyes has led the Hammers to either a sixth or seventh-placed finish this season, meaning that European football is guaranteed for the 2021/22 campaign.

However, a West Ham fan called George has blasted the work Moyes has done, claiming that even though the club’s aim is to finish up to sixth, he’s not happy with the Hammers manager.

West Ham

As shown in a clip on talkSPORT’s Twitter account, the West Ham fan said: “Moyes has got manager of the year but in the end, we’ve come nowhere near fourth.

When told West Ham are four points away from fourth, George replied: “Yes but in the end, we’re going to finish sixth or seventh, which Burnley did a few years ago. It’s nothing special.”

He was then asked where the Irons should finish and said: “Between ninth and sixth, I’d say. Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham have had massive mares.”

Cundy replied to say: “You’re not alone in this thought. I don’t subscribe to it personally, I think your ambitions as a West Ham fan must be, for this season, mid-table to higher. Genuine ambitions. If you can get mid-table to higher, most West Ham fans would have been reasonable satisfied.”

George then said: “That’s where we’re going to end – it’s nothing special what Moyes has done. Everyone is going on and on and on about him. I don’t think he’s done anything special. The best two games we’ve had this season were under Alan Irvine.”

Cundy then laughed and said: “I think it’s incredible. You think for David Moyes, for West Ham to move forward, has to go. Is that what you’re seriously saying?”

The caller replied: “He’s done ok this season but a [Brendan] Rodgers or a [Scott] Parker would do us a lot better than he’s done.”

Have a day off, George

This is the kind of fan that gives us other West Ham supporters a bad name.

People outside the Hammers call us over-ambitious and feel as though the club is actually bigger than it is.

George’s remarks on talkSPORT just fuel that false narrative.

The overwhelming majority of Hammers fans are delighted with the work Moyes had done this season with a sixth or seventh-placed finish beyond the realms of our imagination before the season.

Remember the mood when Grady Diangana was sold to West Brom? Remember the mood after the opening-day defeat to Newcastle?

West Ham

It genuinely felt as though we could have been relegated this season but Moyes has turned a possible relegation battle into what turned out to be a serious bid to finish in the top-four.

While we’ve missed out on the top-four and resulting Champions League qualification, we have absolutely no qualms about that. Could we really have finished above two of Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool or Leicester this season? Absolutely not.

We’re delighted that we can still finish above Tottenham and even more delighted that a spot in Europe is guaranteed for next season.

Moyes has done a wonderful job and the rest of George’s rant is utterly delusional.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are keen to sign this “underrated” striker who scored four goals in one game earlier this season.
