January deal on the cards for Onuachu if he impresses against West Ham
Sport/Foot journalist Peter T’Kint has suggested West Ham will buy Genk striker Paul Onuachu in January if he impresses them next month.
The Hammers are in Group H in the Europa League alongside the Belgian outfit, and they will be clashing after the international break in October.
Onuachu, 27, was linked with David Moyes’ side during the summer [Voetbal Primeur], and while a move did not work out, T’Kint believes the Nigerian international is still very much on their radar and a winter move could be on the cards should he pass next month’s auditions in flying colours.
The Belgian journalist told Sport/Foot: “In a few weeks, after the international break, there will be a showdown with West Ham, we are looking forward to that with great anticipation.
“If Paul Onuachu also hands over his business card, he will be gone in January. Unfortunately”.
Hope?
David Moyes was not able to get a striker during the last transfer window, and he could be very much interested in bringing one to the London Stadium when the next one opens.
With five goals and three assists in five Premier League games to his name in 2021-22, Michail Antonio has hit the ground running in the new campaign and is in the form of his life.
Nevertheless, the Irons need a quality cover and competition considering the injury record of the 31-year-old Jamaican international.
With some many games to play, they cannot expect him to be available for all of them, and using makeshift strikers will not always work.
After ending last term with 35 goals in 41 games for Genk, Onuachu has simply picked off from where he stopped, scoring 11 goals in 12 games thus far.
He will be very eager to prove himself against West Ham when they meet, and Moyes’ men have to be on top of their game to stop the 6ft 7in powerhouse.
The Nigerian is clearly becoming too big for the Belgian top-flight, and if he manages to give the Irons defence a tough time, the Irons manager could be contemplating a winter swoop if he likes what he sees.
