Jamie O’Hara makes West Ham ‘peak’ claim amid David Moyes contract situation

Jamie O’Hara claims West Ham are “punching above their weight” and has demanded the Irons get David Moyes tied down to a new contract.

The Scot’s current contract at London Stadium is set to expire at the end of the season, and there have only been slight rumblings of a new deal, with some fans calling for his head over recent poor performances.

However, O’Hara believes Moyes “deserves” a new contract, praising the manager who has led West Ham to much higher heights than many expected them to reach.

“What are people looking for at West Ham? You’re never going to be Arsenal, never going to be Liverpool, never going to be Man United,” O’Hara said on talkSPORT on Friday morning (06:13am, 29 December).

“You are punching above your weight. Sixth in the table is the peak, the top, of where West Ham can be.

“David Moyes – give him a new contract and let him do his thing. He signed some good players this season and he deserves a new deal.”

The best you’ll ever get

West Ham’s 2-0 victory over Arsenal on Thursday night cemented the idea in many fans’ heads that Moyes is the man for the Hammers job and that there a few managers in football that could have accomplished the same feats in his four years at the club.

Under the 60-year-old, West Ham have lifted the Europa Conference League trophy, become a true contender in the Europa League and continued to push for a top-six finish in the Premier League.

The victory against the Gunners saw Moyes’ side climb above Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion to claim sixth place, just three points behind Tottenham Hotspur.

The idea of Moyes being sacked due to a couple of off-results to Liverpool and Fulham, shipping five goals to each, is wild. It would take some incredible changes, not just in the manager position, if West Ham are to finish in the top four or win the Premier League.
