Jamie O’Hara and Carlton Cole clash over West Ham and Everton argument

Jamie O’Hara and Carlton Cole became embroiled in a spat about West Ham and Everton on talkSPORT on Tuesday as they argued over which club is bigger.

Carlo Ancelotti quit Goodison Park on Tuesday to take over as the new manager of Real Madrid, leading the speculation linking Hammers boss David Moyes with a shock return to Merseyside [Times].

That led to O’Hara and Cole clashing over the size of West Ham and Everton.

West Ham

“We’ve obviously been talking about Everton and Carlton Cole is saying they’re not as big as West Ham, which is a ludicrous claim,” said O’Hara, as shown on talkSPORT’s official Twitter account on Wednesday morning.

Ex-Hammers star Cole replied by saying: “Listen to me, they’re a big club but not big enough – what about that?”

O’Hara then read out a list of Everton’s major achievements throughout their history, leading to Cole saying: “That’s all nostalgia – that’s all old news. You weren’t even born.”

The former Tottenham midfielder replied: “It doesn’t matter. Football didn’t start when I was born. Big clubs didn’t start when I was born.”

Cole then said: “I’m talking about now.”

O’Hara added: “Everton are a huge football club, globally. They’re all over the world.”

We like Cole, he’d bleed claret and blue.

However, his argument against O’Hara was very weak and the whole argument itself was stupid.

Is this what talkSPORT is about? Two grown men who are former professionals arguing over which club is bigger like a couple of 12-year-olds on Twitter?

O’Hara’s claim that Everton are bigger than West Ham is backed by their list of historic achievements and his claim that the Merseyside club is known across the world.

That’s fair enough but the Hammers also have a lengthy list of achievements and they also have a big global following but they also have a huge support in this country which is backed by the massive stadium.

We don’t want to get drawn into this argument because we think that people going on about ‘which club is bigger’ is pathetic.

Both are big clubs.

But only one of them will be playing in Europe next season.
