Jamie Carragher furious at what Darwin Nunez did in Liverpool v West Ham, wants him fined
Jamie Carragher was far from impressed with Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez following his actions as West Ham lost 5-1 in the EFL Cup on Wednesday (25 September).
The Hammers took an unexpected lead through a Jarell Quansah own goal before braces from Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo, as well as a strike from Mohamed Salah turned the game on its head at Anfield.
Despite several key moments during the game, Carragher was keen to point out one frustrating moment from Nunez, who needlessly crashed into Danny Ings and gave away a free-kick in a dangerous position.
Speaking via Sky Sports on Wednesday (25 September), he said: “That’s a clumsy foul. I mean we’ve already seen one at the other end but Nunez there, honestly…
“It’s the one thing in football I’ll never be able to get my head around when I see someone just run straight into the back of someone, going absolutely nowhere.
“I think there should be a fine for that. Honestly, I do. If I was a manager I would fine players for that.”
Darwin Nunez flops in Liverpool v West Ham United
The Uruguayan has found it difficult to break into Arne Slot’s starting XI since the beginning of the season, having appeared as a substitute in four of the Reds’ Premier League games so far.
His frustration was rather clear against the Hammers, taking his anger out on Ings, as he also struggled to find form at Anfield despite five goals going past Lukasz Fabianski between the sticks.
That will be the last thing on Julen Lopetegui’s mind, however, with his side unable to find any sort of form since the impressive 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at the end of August.
The Irons have lost to Manchester City and Chelsea in the Premier League since, sandwiching a last-gasp draw against Fulham, which has now been followed by the 5-1 loss to Liverpool in the EFL Cup.

While the defeat offers little to get excited about, Lopetegui now put his whole focus on the Hammers’ Premier League campaign instead of worrying about other competitions.
His job could be on the line if he cannot take the club any higher than the middle of the league table. Indeed, it appears he is already feeling that pressure at the London Stadium.
