Jaime Carragher delivers Premier League relegation prediction after West Ham United show faith in David Moyes

Jaime Carragher believes West Ham United will survive relegation from the Premier League this season after David Moyes was left as the only remaining manager out of the bottom six clubs yet to be sacked.

The Hammers have had their fair share of ups and downs so far this term but ultimately find themselves in a relegation battle after winning just five games all season.

Moyes’ side are currently sitting 17th in the Premier League table but only remain above the drop zone by a single point after their dreadful start to the campaign.

Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, Sky Sports pundit Carragher admitted he thought several teams would face a close battle for relegation but did not mention the Hammers in this list.

He said: “Out of the bottom six or seven, I think West Ham are the only ones who haven’t changed their manager.

“Obviously, David Moyes has done a great job the last few years, so you’d expect that. But it just shows the stakes, how high they are in terms of staying in the Premier League (and) it probably looks like Southampton are going to change their manager again, probably in the next couple of weeks.

“I think Forest will be ok, they’ve got that buffer now… I think Southampton and Bournemouth are going to go down. I think if Everton hadn’t changed manager, I think they would have been in big trouble, but I think it’ll be down to Everton and Leeds. I think it will be a toss-up between the two.”

Return to form

Moyes has certainly faced his fair share of critics this season, but you can’t help but feel his side have turned a corner in recent weeks.

After going on a lengthy winless run in the league, which ultimately led to the Scot being one step away from the sack [Calciomercato, 16 January], his West Ham United side have finally started delivering the goods in an unbeaten three-match run.

The number of summer signings the club brought in was always going to be a challenge to gel together, but the likes of Nayef Aguerd and Lucas Paqueta seem to have finally found their feet at the London Stadium.

Aguerd, in particular, looks to be an absolute steal of a transfer, showing his class with Morocco at the Qatar World Cup and in the recent 1-1 draw to Newcastle at St James Park.

Ultimately, Moyes’ side should have far too much quality to draw away from the pack at the bottom of the table, and the January addition of Danny Ings adds yet another string to Moyes’s bow in East London.
