Jack Rosser wowed by West Ham midfielder Manuel Lanzini v Burnley

West Ham midfielder Manuel Lanzini was picked out as the bright spark in an otherwise uninspiring first half against Burnley by Jack Rosser.

The Hammers travelled to Turf Moor this afternoon but entertainment was at a minimum in the opening 45 minutes, with the two teams managing just a shot on target between them.

It did not get much better in the second half and both sides went home with a point following a dull 0-0 draw.

Writing on the Evening Standard’s live blog for the game, Rosser said in the first half:

“Lanzini has been the real standout for West Ham so far. He came in for his first start of the season at Chelsea and did well – scoring a goal from the spot – and has built on it here. Sharp in possession and looking to create at every opportunity.”

Key asset

Lanzini has really proven his worth in recent weeks after struggling for game time at the start of the season.

In the first nine Premier League matches of the campaign, the Argentine played just 21 minutes of football and was left on the substitutes bench on five occasions.

However, he came off the bench in the 4-1 win over Aston Villa at the end of October to set up Jarrod Bowen to round off the scoring and that has led to him getting more opportunities.

A late goal as a substitute against Manchester City earned Lanzini a first league start of the season against Chelsea last week (4 December) and he scored a penalty in the 3-2 win.

With the fixtures coming thick and fast over the next few weeks, it is fantastic to see Lanzini getting up to speed and he should be a real asset in upcoming matches.

In other West Ham news, a Hammers transfer target reportedly wants to leave his current club in January.
