Jack Grealish namechecks West Ham United ace Jarrod Bowen in new England admission

Jack Grealish has name-checked West Ham United star Jarrod Bowen in a brand-new England admission

The Manchester City man missed out on a place in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad for Euro 2024, with Irons ace Bowen one of many attacking players preferred to the former Aston Villa man.

Although Grealish insists that he feels he deserved to be included in the travelling party for this summer’s tournament, he admits that the Hammers captain has managed to produce more in terms of goals and assists.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live (8 October) he said: “I’ll be honest with you, I didn’t really agree with it because I didn’t feel like I had the best season.

“You look at some of the players for example in my position, Phil Foden, Anthony Gordon even Jarrod Bowen people like this, they scored a lot of goals which 100 per cent I agree with.

“But I just know that my game is not just about goals. I think I give so much more to the team than just goals.”

Why is Jarrod Bowen not in the England squad after West Ham form?

The roles have almost been reversed between the European Championships and the October international break. Grealish has now been recalled by Lee Carsley and Bowen has not been included in the Three Lions squad.

Whether or not Hammers fans agree with that decision is almost by the by when it comes to this argument. There was absolutely no way that Bowen couldn’t be included in Southgate’s squad for the Euros.

The Irons skipper had been in red-hot form under David Moyes and was one of the most consistent English forwards in the Premier League. To top it off, he has experience of scoring in big matches having fired the Hammers to the Europa Conference League title.

Grealish may well offer a bit more outside of the final third than the likes of Bowen, Gordon or Foden, but in tournament football, that moment of magic is what counts.

It won’t be too long before Bowen is back amongst the England side once again, especially if his display against Ipswich Town is the springboard to kickstart his season.
