‘I’ve spoken with the owners’ – Moyes opens up over West Ham contract situation

West Ham boss David Moyes says that he is comfortable with his current contract situation as he was asked about his Hammers future.

Moyes’ current deal expires in the summer and after the club’s impressive start to the Premier League season, many Irons fans are keen for the club to offer their manager a new contract.

Star striker Michail Antonio signed a new contract last week and this news led to questions over Moyes’ future and when he may pen a new deal.

Sky Sports quote Moyes as saying, “I’m more than comfortable just now, I’ve spoken with the owners a few times and I’m in regular contact with them.

“We’ll look at things going into the new year some time but there’s no great rush. I think because of our great start we want to make sure we’re focused and we keep going.”

Moyes is achieving far more than many Irons fans will have predicted when he took over from Manuel Pellegrini last season.

Ahead of Monday’s game against Chelsea, the Hammers find themselves firmly amongst the European places after narrowly avoiding relegation last season.

Few predicted this incredible rise from West Ham and a lot of the credit has to go to Moyes after his tactical changes and solid recruitment.

Signings such as Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal have proved to be incredible pieces of business as they have been instrumental in the Irons’ improvement this season.

The switch to a back five this season has also proved to be crucial as Moyes’ side utilise their talented wing-backs, while also getting plenty out of Aaron Cresswell who has been deployed as a centre half.

It is imperative that the Hammers tie Moyes down to a long term contract and while it does seem inevitable that it will happen soon, it would provide some peace of mind to have it sorted in the near future.
