Irons-mad broadcaster Sam Delaney has no fear of Liverpool ahead of clash on Sunday
West Ham-mad broadcaster Sam Delaney believes the pressure is very much on Liverpool to come and perform at the London Stadium on Sunday.
Reviewing Tuesday night’s win against Crystal Palace, Delaney said that he doesn’t feel scared about facing the champions whilst speaking on the U Irons podcast.
“If the team keep playing like they did [Tuesday] night, I don’t see us dropping many points over the next few weeks,” he said.
“I know we’ve got Liverpool next, which remains one of the hardest games of the season. Regardless of their form, they’re still a fantastic team, but I don’t feel scared about playing them!
“The pressure is on them, there’s none on David Moyes’ team now.
“It would have to be something so extreme for it to be considered anything other than a successful season. Even if we drop off and finish tenth it’ll still be considered a season of progress under Moyes.”
Playing with no fear
Suffering back to back losses to begin the Premier League campaign gave all West Ham fans the feeling of ‘here we go again’.
Having played so well from June 2020, it appeared that the lack of summer investments would be the undoing of Moyes’ squad and that we were in for a long campaign once again.
Fast forward to January 2021 and the Hammers can go back ahead of last season’s champions if we pick up three points Sunday, having played the same amount of games as them.
To echo Delaney, there is no pressure whatsoever on our players, it’s fully on Liverpool.
Had we said twelve months ago that in a years time we’ll be on the brink of the Champions League spaces, and the highest-ranked team from London, we’d have been laughed out the building.
Deservedly, West Ham can go the rest of the season enjoying their football, much like they have been so far.
If we keep going the way we are, there’s no reason why we can’t push for Europe come the end of the season!
In other West Ham news, this striker still remains a top transfer target for Moyes.
