‘Incoming disasterclass’ – These West Ham fans dread Yarmolenko playing as striker v Man Utd

West Ham fans have voiced their opposition to Andriy Yarmolenko starting as the lone striker against Manchester United in the FA Cup on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old played in that role in the previous round against Doncaster Rovers and scored in the 4-0 win.

Michail Antonio picked up a hamstring injury against Fulham, and David Moyes revealed that he is a doubt for the trip to Old Trafford.

That is a blow for the Irons, particularly as we do not have a senior striker to call upon.

Some supporters want Ademipo Odubeko to replace Antonio but he has only one senior appearance to his name – a one-minute cameo against Stockport in the third round last month.

He is not ready to play Man United, therefore, and with Jesse Lingard unavailable against his parent club we are short of options.

It is likely that Yarmolenko will start up-front, and we are hoping he can reproduce his Doncaster performance.

He showed a striker’s instinct at times in that game, reacting quickly to a loose ball which Said Benrahma then played in behind for the defence for him to score.

We are not expecting much of Yarmolenko but if he works hard and puts the Man United defence under pressure then he could make a difference.

Here is what fans have been saying ahead of the cup tie.
