‘If I really wanted to go’ – Midfielder reacts after failed West Ham offer

Club Brugge midfielder Hans Vanaken has confirmed that West Ham United made an offer for his services last week.

The Belgian international admitted he could have forced an exit if he wanted to leave, but that wasn’t the case.

Sky Sports reported that the Hammers offered £13million for the 28-year-old, way below Brugges’ apparent valuation.

Vanaken spoke out recently, claiming that he was happy where he was and that all the offers were made clear to him.

“It’s true that Club refused a bid, but that has always been communicated correctly,” he said via Football London.

“In the end, Club Brugge made an effort towards me. If I really wanted to go, I might have played it dirtier, but that’s not how I am. It also shows the respect that there is between me and the club.”

The only addition brought in during this window was Vladimir Coufal from Sparta Prague.

Coufal was added to David Moyes’ squad for a mere £5million and already looks a steal after his debut against Leicester City.

With Mark Noble struggling with his fitness early on in the season, Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice have stepped up – meaning there is little in sense of attacking options in midfield.

Vanaken would have filled that void, but he didn’t appear to be screaming out for the move to the London Stadium.
