Ian Wright verdict emerges amid Julen Lopetegui to West Ham United claim

Ian Wright believes that West Ham must hope that former Real Madrid and Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui is not using the club as a stepping stone.

The Spanish manager now appears to be the overwhelming favourite to take over at the London Stadium with David Moyes facing the sack.

While no official announcement has been made, there’s a feeling that it could be made before the end of the season.

Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show on 6 May at 14:51, Wright said: “I’m hearing it’s Lopetegui and you’d hope so for West Ham’s sake that it is the right appointment. It depends on where they want to be, what they want to do.

“This is what I’m sure West Ham fans are desperate to know. They know you can use West Ham as a stepping stone.

“I think with Lopetegui, what we saw at the end of [his time at] Wolves, it was a little bit harsh. Have they got a plan for going forward and they want someone to take them forward and then something else?”

West Ham United fans must rally behind Julen Lopetegui

Lopetegui’s imminent appointment as the new manager has stirred mixed feelings among fans, especially considering his potential use of the club as a stepping stone.

Wright’s comments reflect a broader concern about whether Lopetegui’s tenure will be a strategic move for his career or a dedicated effort to elevate the Hammers’ performance.

Despite this apprehension, the club seems set on Lopetegui, and it’s essential for the fans to rally behind him.

Lopetegui’s managerial history, including his time at Real Madrid and the Spanish national team, demonstrates his capability and experience at the highest levels of football.

His tactical acumen and ability to manage high-profile players are valuable assets that could benefit West Ham.

Although his recent stint at Wolves ended abruptly, it’s worth noting that he had faced challenges beyond his control, such as the club’s financial situation.

Given the circumstances, it’s crucial for fans to give Lopetegui a fair chance.
