Ian Wright reacts to new Jarrod Bowen development at West Ham United
Ian Wright has shared his reaction after West Ham United confirmed that Jarrod Bowen had been named their captain ahead of the new season.
The England international, who is heading into his sixth season at the London Stadium has been confirmed as the new skipper, taking the place of Kurt Zouma who is set to depart before the transfer deadline [Dharmesh Sheth, 15 August].
Bowen’s appointment has been met with universal praise by supporters and pundits alike and BBC Sport pundit Wright has been quick to share his verdict on the decision via social media.
Commenting on the Hammers’ Instagram post on Thursday (15 August) the former West Ham striker posted a series of clapping emojis followed by a single red heart.

It isn’t often a decision like this is so obvious, but it has been clear for some time now that Bowen is the perfect player to step into Zouma’s shoes and take on the captain’s armband ahead of the new season.
The England international just gets what it means to be a West Ham player and is already a legend in East London having scored that goal in Prague to guide the Hammers to the Europa Conference League under David Moyes.
His appointment at skipper is the latest mark of the Julen Lopetegui revamp in East London. The former Real Madrid manager has already put his stamp on the playing squad in the transfer market and now he’s altering the leadership group.
He may have only been in charge for a matter of months, but the team that will take to the field for the Premier League curtain raiser against Aston Villa already couldn’t be much more different from the one he took over.
Hopefully, Bowen will be the skipper the next time the Irons get their hands on some silverware under the new manager.
