Ian Abrahams blasts West Ham United stars after loss v Bristol City, names trio who weren’t bad

Ian Abrahams has been left fuming at a select group of West Ham players after their dismal efforts in the FA Cup defeat against Bristol City.

After the first leg ended in a stalemate, the fixture was replayed at Ashton Gate and that saw the Championship side causing an upset by winning 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Tommy Conway.

The talkSPORT commentator slammed Konstantinos Mavropanos, Said Benrahma and Maxwel Cornet while showing sympathy towards Lukasz Fabianski, Emerson and Ben Johnson.

Via Twitter, Abrahams wrote: “Ok time to look at West Ham cup exit at Bristol City. Credit to Liam Manning and his team. Apart from Emerson, Ben Johnson (when he came on) and probably Fabianski, the rest of the team were poor, with some, Mavrapanos, Benrahma, Cornet not reaching even those heights.”

Shocking

This result highlighted David Moyes’ questionable selection and the team’s lack of depth, a factor exacerbated by injuries to key players like Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta, along with Mohammed Kudus’ absence due to the Africa Cup of Nations.

The starting front three of Danny Ings, Cornet and Benrahma, yet to score this season, struggled to make an impact.

The early and avoidable goal put the Hammers on the defensive and despite flashes of promise from Ings and missed opportunities from Cornet, the team failed to create significant attacking threats.

Benrahma’s loss of composure, resulting in a red card, further hampered their chances.

Despite their Premier League standing and Europa League prospects, the disappointment in the cup exit is likely to linger, leaving fans frustrated with the missed opportunity for a successful cup run.

It’ll be a shame if Ings, Cornet and Benrahma are at the club beyond the summer as they’re clearly not good enough.
