‘I do fully expect’ – Alex Crook claims West Ham could move for Bordeaux striker Josh Maja

West Ham could set their sights on Bordeaux striker Josh Maja this month, according to transfer expert Alex Crook on TalkSPORT.

The journalist is certain that the Irons are going to sign a new striker after selling Sebastien Haller to Ajax earlier in the window.

Crook suggests Maja is a cheaper alternative to options like Arkadiusz Milik and Josh King, who have been linked with a move to East London in recent weeks.

Appearing on TalkSPORT, Crook said, “I do fully expect them to bring in someone before the window closes.”

“One other possible target could be former Sunderland striker Josh Maja. He will be a much cheaper option.”

Refusing to spend big again

Do we need a cheap option?

A move for Maja might not be the worst thing but it would signal a lack of ambition.

The 22-year-old was signed for £3.5million in 2019 and he could be a cheap option.

However, he has struggled for goals of late, scoring two in 17 games in Ligue 1 this term.

We are not confident that he will be able improve on that return in the Premier League given that it is a step-up from France.

That is why he isn’t a suitable target – we need a striker who can make an immediate goalscoring impact and provide competition for Michail Antonio.

If the board is unwilling to splash out on another big-money forward after the failure of Haller, it would be very disappointing.

David Moyes has worked wonders this season and deserves to be given money to spend.

He shouldn’t settle for Maja, unless he arrives along with a more proven striker.
