‘He’s been burnt’ – Darren Bent discusses David Moyes West Ham future

talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent believes David Moyes has no reason to leave West Ham any time soon unless a top club comes calling for him again.

Moyes rejoined the Hammers for a second spell as manager in December 2019 and helped the club stave off relegation, and has now built them into a team competing in the Europa League and for a top four place.

This led to a conversation on talkSPORT on Thursday [March 3, 17:28] between Andy Goldstein and Bent about whether he could leave for a bigger club, but the former Aston Villa and England striker thinks he’s been burnt before and would be wary now.

“No because, maybe the United job came too soon for him and then he obviously had people talking about him there and then he went to Sunderland and was poor there, then he went to La Liga,” he said.

“I think where he’s at right now is perfect for him. I think he’s been burnt before and he’s kind of learnt his lessons. Unless he’s going to get a crack at one of the top teams again, why would you want to go anywhere else?

“The fans love him, it’s like the Everton job. They let him stay for a while, build a project and if he gets investment you never know.

“I can’t see him going anywhere else.”

Long-term plan

There is a big plan in place at the London Stadium right now and the biggest part of that plan is Moyes.

Without him, West Ham simply wouldn’t be where they are today and they owe him all the time in the world to take the club as far as he possibly can.

His development of players like Declan Rice, Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio has been exceptional to watch and unless he got the opportunity to work alongside superstars again and really test himself he has no need to leave.

He’s being backed financially, competing at a very high level, working with top players and being successful in relation to the team’s expectations and resources.

Hammers fans will be desperate not to see him leave any time soon because with him at the helm, the possibilities are endless for them. Lets all hope that for once, Bent is right about something!
