Harry Redknapp moots West Ham United failure after what they did recently

Harry Redknapp believes that Julen Lopetegui’s summer recruitment for West Ham United may have backfired after their recent performances.

The Hammers have underperformed this season and are now fifteenth in the Premier League, just five points clear of the drop zone.

Lopetegui’s men only have two top-flight wins to their name after the 4-1 thrashing by Tottenham last time out on 19 October.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (22 October, 09:39am) Redknapp shared his thoughts on what he has seen so far at the London Stadium.

“Their front four I thought they could do some damage [to Tottenham], on paper it looks like fantastic attacking front players but they’re wide open at the moment and sadly the manager has come into a bit of criticism,” he said.

“David got it last year, [from West Ham fans saying] we want to get David out, and now they’ve made a change and unfortunately their recruitment I don’t know, I thought they brought in some decent players but at the minute, it’s not looking that way.”

West Ham United need to step up their Premier League performance

If things don’t turn around at the London Stadium soon, Lopetegui and his men could find themselves in a rather sticky situation.

The summer transfer window saw players such as Max Kilman and Niclas Fullkrug join the Hammers’ ranks with the transfers helping bolster their team massively.

Fans seemed fairly encouraged by the arrivals but, thanks to the injury Fullkrug sustained, one of their most important signings hasn’t been able to prove his worth.

The Hammers haven’t had a consistent number nine for years now at the London Stadium, and that hasn’t changed despite big money being spent.

West Ham United manager David Moyes
David Moyes will be remembered fondly by West Ham supporters.

Michail Antonio and Danny Ings failed to score 10 goals combined last term and while injuries didn’t help with their lack of goalscoring form, in the games they were called upon, they should have done better.

If Lopetegui doesn’t manage to turn this form around soon, his job will no doubt be at risk and his London Stadium tenure would more than likely come to a rather premature end.
