Harry Redknapp makes prediction for West Ham United v Manchester United in Premier League clash

Harry Redknapp has predicted West Ham fans to be “so up for” their Premier League fixture against Manchester United on Saturday 23 December.

Despite their recent 5-0 and 5-1 losses to Fulham and Liverpool, the Hammers are still in prime position in the Premier League ahead of a blockbuster fixture against the Red Devils.

A victory for David Moyes’ men could see them overtake Man United and Redknapp believes the fans will be confident that this could be the case.

“West Ham fans love a game against Manchester United. They will be so up for it,” he said live on Sky Sports on Wednesday (20 December).

“When Manchester United come to town, everyone gets up for it.”

A famous fixture

Hammers fans will have very fond memories against Man United, especially with their last-ever match at the Boleyn Ground coming up against Louis van Gaal and Man United in a thrilling 3-2 victory.

The last meeting between the two sides proved vital for West Ham as a David De Gea howler helped Said Benrahma seal the only goal of the game and move the Hammers seven points clear of the relegation zone last season.

However, the three meetings before that were all Man United, taking two 1-0 victories in the Premier League at Old Trafford and a 3-1 win in the FA Cup Fifth Round.

Though, with Man United’s sloppy form under Erik ten Hag, West Ham fans may be eager for Saturday to roll around, allowing them a chance to forget the 5-1 thrashing by Liverpool in the EFL Cup.

The visitors have won just one of their last five matches, seeing them fall to seventh in the league, one point ahead of the Hammers. With the crowd on their side, which Redknapp believes they will be in full voice, West Ham could creep under the radar towards the European spots, if other results go their way.
