Harry Redknapp makes Julen Lopetegui and West Ham transfer claim live on talkSPORT

Harry Redknapp believes Julen Lopetegui will have received assurances that he will have money to spend at West Ham United.

It was officially announced on Thursday (23 May) that Lopetegui had taken over as West Ham boss at the London Stadium following the departure of David Moyes.

While speaking live on talkSPORT (8:42 am, 24 May), ex-Hammers boss Redknapp shared whether he feels the Argentinian will have money to spend at the club.

Redknapp said, “He must have spoken to David Sullivan about that situation, he must have got assurances that they are going to spend and look to improve the team.

“I am sure he must have got some assurances that he will have money to spend.

“He walked out of Wolves with no assurances, I don’t see him going into West Ham unless he gets them.”

Julen Lopetegui will be keen to splash the cash with West Ham United

As Redknapp pointed out, Lopetegui left Wolves in quite dramatic circumstances.

There have been a few instances where the manager hasn’t stuck around long at clubs, and the Hammers board will be keen to keep him happy.

After Moyes’ five-year spell in East London – which was a huge success overall – it is important that the club get their next appointment right.

If Lopetegui was to leave in similar circumstances to the way he left Wolves, question marks and uncertainty would start to cloud over the London Stadium.

This could lead to high-profile players leaving and supporters becoming disengaged.

As a result, the Lopetegui era must be a success.

Signing a striker is one of Julen Lopetegui’s main priorities at West Ham this summer

If that means backing their man, then the club’s board should take some advice from their former manager and give their new boss some cash to splash.

The warning signs are there, and the Hammers must make sure they don’t test Lopetegui.
