Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay to West Ham United deals not dead amid ‘new’ Manchester United update – Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United are set for yet more “new” talks with West Ham over deals for Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian transfers journalist reported via Twitter in the early hours of Tuesday morning (8 August) that further discussions with the Hammers have already been “scheduled” amid a host of further exit negotiations.

West Ham tabled new £30m bids for both the Old Trafford men on Monday and although neither were successful it appears the pursuits are still on and the clubs will continue to speak about getting them over the line in another set of talks.

David Moyes is targeting Maguire, 30, after various injuries to his current centre-back group over the past two seasons, and wants to add McTominay, 26, to his squad with the incoming Edson Alvarez to replace former captain Declan Rice.

Not dead

Clearly in Manchester they are prepared to let both players leave if they keep entertaining discussions and the repeated bid rejections are down to valuation.

It isn’t going to be cheap to get either deal done but West Ham have sold players for a lot of money already, with Gianluca Scamacca’s exit to Atalanta confirmed on Monday for up to around £27m after selling Rice to Arsenal for a guaranteed £100m.

Nikola Vlasic is set to follow imminently for another £11m [Sky Sports, 7 August], and while over £30m is now heading to Ajax to finally bring Alvarez in as the first signing of the summer there should be space to spend.

West Ham

Moyes seems a lot closer to landing Maguire than McTominay, and the defender might find the London Stadium the ideal place to rehabilitate his reputation after a bruising couple of seasons at Old Trafford that has culminated in him losing the captaincy this summer.

But with at least one striker, a left-back, an attacking midfielder and another central midfielder still required the money available will need to stretch a long way.

McTominay’s asking price thought to be as high as £45m [Telegraph, 25 July] so the Irons are some way off reaching an agreement for him, but time is running out on the transfer window to find a long list of answers to a squad that spent most of last season battling relegation.

In other West Ham news, a live update has emerged on Sky Sports over the futures of Moyes and Tim Steidten at the London Stadium.
