Hansi Flick pushed for West Ham United job, Tim Steidten knows and likes ex-Bayern Munich boss

Hansi Flick is now being pushed forward as an option for the West Ham job by agents, according to The Times.

The German is named by a report on the paper’s website (26 April) as one of three names known and liked by London Stadium technical direction Tim Steidten from his time in the Bundesliga.

Borussia Dortmund boss and former assistant to Slaven Bilic at West Ham Edin Terzic has reportedly been “overlooked”, while Sebastian Hoeness recently signed a new deal extending his time in charge at Stuttgart until 2027, potentially ruling him out.

Former treble-winning Bayern Munich boss Flick is out of work however and is said to be a name intermediaries are advancing, after emerging on the Irons shortlist this week, suggesting his prospects may now be increasing.

Could former Germany boss replace David Moyes at West Ham?

It is still technically not certain that David Moyes will actually be leaving the Hammers when his contract expires in the summer.

The Scot was playing it cool in his press conference on Friday, telling the media that a decision is still to be made collaboratively between him and the club [Football London, 26 April].

But it seems as likely as it ever has currently that the 60-year-old’s time at the London Stadium is drawing to a close, with Ruben Amorim and Julen Lopetegui both reported to have had talks with West Ham.

The former’s meeting with David Sullivan seemingly didn’t go well, leaving the Portuguese unlikely to take over, while Spanish former-Wolves and Real Madrid boss Lopetegui is in with a good shout but hasn’t got universal backing at the club.

The ex-Spain manager, 57, would surely have the edge over Flick, 59, given his experience of managing in the Premier League.

Signing a striker is one of Julen Lopetegui’s main priorities at West Ham this summer

But if Steidten, who has risen to a position of considerable power at West Ham in a short space of time, is a fan of his compatriot from their time in Germany he might yet develop into a genuine candidate.

Whether he would be right for the club has to be questioned though, when his nightmare time in charge of his national team ended in October and there appears to have been little in the way of a clamour across Europe to appoint him.
